Below are just some of the pornographic, incestuous, and pedophilic books within our Redlands Unified School District. Candy Olson has been a leading voice fighting to prevent children from being exposed to hypersexualized material. Despite filing numerous book challenges, Candy and many concerned community members and parents have only had success in the middle schools, where three challenged books have been removed. However, none of the Redlands high schools will remove this content.

If elected, one of Candy Olson’s top priorities is to clean up our school libraries, having only age-appropriate content accessible. Different policy options could work—an opt-in policy where parents may opt-in to allow their child to view/check out sexually graphic material, or a committee policy that removes content while it’s being reviewed for appropriateness. The bottom line is that parents need to be aware of and consent to what’s available for their child to read and check out.

Identical by Ellen Hopkins, is in our RUSD high school libraries. It has not been officially challenged yet but should be soon due to the explicit sexual pedophilic and incestuous content.

The Harms of Pornography Exposure Among Children and Young People. Child Abuse Review, 18(6), pp. 384-400. Flood, Michael, 2009.
"Exposure to pornography is routine among children and young people, with a range of notable and often troubling effects. Particularly among younger children, exposure to pornography may be disturbing or upsetting. Exposure to pornography helps to sustain young people's adherence to sexist and unhealthy notions of sex and relationships. And, especially among boys and young men who are frequent consumers of pornography, including of more violent materials, consumption intensifies attitudes supportive of sexual coercion and increases their likelihood of perpetrating assault. While children and young people are sexual beings and deserve age-appropriate materials on sex and sexuality, pornography is a poor, and indeed dangerous, sex educator."

Pornography and Its Impact on Adolescent/Teenage Sexuality. Journal of Psychosexual Health, 5 (1), Himani Adarsh and Swapnajeet Sahoo, 2023
"Studies have noted that early intentional exposure to pornography use in children and adolescents can lead to delinquent behavior, high-risk sexual behavior, and substance use."
